Local History in Fountain Hill, PA

Lenape Indians originally inhabited the area. Augustus Fiot bought 107 acres of land in the area in the mid-19th century. He named his estate Fontainebleau in honor of his birthplace in France. He died in 1866, and his property was sold to Tinsley Jeter, who named his new development Fountain Hill, perhaps as a nod to Fiot. Fountain Hill was incorporated in September 1893. The borough expanded with two annexations in the 20th century.
