The area that became Queensbury, NY was a favorite hunting and fishing site for the Iroquois. In 1762, King George III of England granted the Queensbury patent of 23,000 acres to Daniel Prindle of Connecticut. The name Queensbury refers to the king’s consort, Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Prindle sold the land shortly to Abraham Wing and a group of Quakers.
