The Local History
Concord was founded in 1796 out of a compromise. Two groups of settlers, one German and the other Scots-Irish, disagreed on where the seat of Cabarrus County should be located. When they finally reached an agreement on a 26-acre site, they first called the county seat Cabarrus Court House. In 1819, the name was changed to Concord, meaning harmony, in honor of the dispute’s settlement. Cotton mills in the area thrived in the late 19th century. The city became a textile center in the 20th century.

The 550,000-square-foot facility also includes restaurants.
