The area was once the site of a stagecoach station called Grider’s, named after Tobias S. Grider, a ranch owner. Although historians are uncertain how or why Junction was renamed, a local paper identified the town as Roseville in 1864 when it published the number of votes the town cast for Abraham Lincoln versus George McClellan in the presidential election that year. Roseville was incorporated in 1909.
