Reston is a relatively new city founded by Robert E. Simon, as recently as 1964, purchased from Carnegie Hall's sale proceeds. Robert E. Simon developed Reston based on the Garden City movement, emphasizing quality of life as the guiding design factor. Students in Reston can attend Fairfax County Public Schools or one of several private schools. The public schools include one high school, one middle school, and several elementary schools. There are nine private schools in Reston focusing on different ages of children. For higher education opportunities, located in Reston are three satellite campuses.

Reston's close proximity to Washington, D.C., as well as the numerous companies located within Reston, mean the employment opportunities are plentiful. Getting Around in Reston

Several options are available throughout Reston for transportation. The Dulles Toll Road allows travel between Reston and the Capital Beltway and Washington Dulles International Airport. Reston has one Metro Silver Line station currently, with two more slated for sometime in 2021. Reston itself has its own bus system, the RIBS, that transports residents throughout the city. Fairfax County also provides bus service throughout the county.
