Lovers of outdoor activities will be interested to know that Plattsburgh is located just a few miles outside Adirondack Park. This is by far the largest state park in New York. At about 6.1 million acres in size, it’s also the largest state park in the entire USA.
Adirondack Park is home to the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, each of which reaches higher than 4,000 feet. Hikers who summit each of these peaks gain entry into the exclusive Adirondack 46ers club. Adirondack Park is also home to several major ski areas, including Gore Mountain, Titus Mountain, and Snow Ridge Ski Area.
Adirondack Park has a lot more to offer than just mountains. In fact, the park is home to more than 10,000 lakes as well as more than 30,000 combined miles of rivers and streams. Plattsburgh itself is located on the western shore of Lake Champlain. This massive lake has nearly 600 miles of coastline and reaches as deep as 400 feet in some places. It’s a very popular place to go fishing, swimming, and boating.
