Demographics

As Blacksburg is a hub for college students and young professionals, 57.4% of the population was reported to be between the ages of 18 and 24 in the 2000 census. Indeed, the influence of Virginia Tech is palpable in that around 70% of Blacksburg residents graduated from the university. The city at large has a population of around 39,573 people, and 4,777 families are known to reside in the area.

Located just 10 minutes away from segments of the Appalachian Trail, Blacksburg is a hot spot for hikers, and nowhere more than McAfee Knob. This trail is 8.8 miles roundtrip and features stunning panoramic views.
