The Local Weather and Climate 

Salt Lake City has all four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. During the Spring, the weather in the valley starts to warm-up, but there is still snow in the mountains. Skiing can continue through April and May, and while in the valley, the warm temperatures allow for outdoor sports such as golf and tennis. In the valley, temperatures range from 70-degree highs to 37-degree lows during the spring months.  

In the summer, the valley experiences very high temperatures of 100°F, but temperatures are about 20° cooler in the mountains. June, July, and August are the hottest months of the year.  

The Fall season is breathtaking, with vibrant colors appearing in all the trees. Days are warm and nights are cold with temperatures ranging from 40°-78°F. 

The winter is cold with lots of snow. Skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing are popular sports in this area. Highs and lows vary from 25° to 44°F, with very few nights dropping below zero. 

An "inversion" is a reversal of the normal behavior of temperatures due to the cool and warm air patterns in the area. This is experienced in Salt Lake City as the mountains have high/low-pressure areas that create fog and smog and result in poor air quality. This happens several times a year during the winter months.
