This 3-week long festival includes country music performances by well-known artists, mechanical bull rides, a wine garden, and plenty of home-cooked barbeques. 

The BBQ cuisine is also heavily influenced by the Mexican culture, and the combination of the two produce "Tex-Mex," a "cowboy cuisine for the borderlands."  The top three restaurants to visit while in Houston are The Pit Room (BBQ), Teotihuacan Mexican Café, and The Original Ninfa's on Navigation, a staple to Houston's Tex-Mex cuisine.

Things to Do in Houston 

Houston is a massive metropolitan on the coastline of Texas. The famous Space Center Houston brings in many tourists each year. The Museum District has nineteen museums to view and is rich in culture. Another star attraction is the Houston Zoo in Hermann Park. 

The city of Galveston is a quick drive away and has beautiful beaches to soak up the sun.  Pleasure Pier is a boardwalk with restaurants, rides, and carnival-themed games to play.  The most popular event is the annual Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.  This 19-day event is held during February or March and offers an entertaining and fun family environment.  

For more peaceful interactions with nature, make your way to the Buffalo Bayou Park. This 160-acre park runs straight through the city and has an abundance of trails to walk, bike, or hike. You can also kayak, canoe or paddleboard in the Buffalo Bayou at the center of the park.

Local Sports in Houston 

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy watching local professional sports teams such as the Houston Texans (NFL), Astros (MLB), Dash (NWSL), Dynamo (MLS), and the Rockets (NBA).  You can see the Astros playing at the Minute Maid Park or the Rockets playing at the Toyota Center; both arenas are in downtown Houston. 

There are four Division I collegiate sports teams that play within the city: University of Houston Cougars, Rice University Owls, Houston Baptist University Huskies, and the Texas Southern University Tigers. A few sporting events that are held in Houston annually are the PGA Tour- Shell Houston Open, the Texas Bowl, and the Grand Prix of Houston. 

Houston’s Weather and Climate 

The proximity to large bodies of water has a heavy influence on Houston's weather.  Situated by the Gulf of Mexico and Galveston Bay, the subtropical climate is hot and humid.  Summers are sweltering with 95 degrees days.  Winters are mild, temperatures average 60 degrees during the day.  An occasional freezing night may drop to 31 degrees every so often.  The cooler days last from November – February but it rarely ever snows.  

Although Houston is located south of "Tornado-Alley," severe tornadoes and thunderstorms periodically pass through the city.  The best time to visit this Metro is from March – April, and October – November.
