The Thomasville History Center and the Thomasville Rose Garden, and Cherokee Lake Park are two must-see places when in town. Known as "The City of Roses," Thomasville holds an annual Rose Festival to display these beautiful flowers. 

The Local Sports Scene

Thomasville High School has produced a handful of NFL players as it has a prestigious football program. It won one high school football national championship in 1974 and has five state championships (1945, 1958, 1973, 1974, and 1988). Some NFL players from this school are William Andrews, Mike Bobo, Shawn Jones, Mike Jones, Charles Bostick, Eric Curry, and Brandon Thompson. The high school has also won other championships in baseball, soccer, and tennis. 

Thomas University is a private university located in Thomasville.  It is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes at the Division I level in The Sun Conference. The Night Hawks athletic teams compete in various sports to include baseball, basketball, golf, soccer, and swimming.  

Local History

The city of Thomasville was established in 1826 and named after Major General Jett Thomas. In 1861 the town gained a railroad and was easily accessible via the north. During the 1800s, the city became known as the "Winter Resort of the South" and quickly represented the best of Southern hospitality. The lavish and lux hotels attracted America's wealthiest families, who then purchased land and build extravagant mansions in the area. There is a rich heritage in this town, and the long-standing tradition of cultural and economic diversity is still seen today. This city is also home to the 400-year-old Big Oak, a massive oak tree with a limb span of 162 feet, which has become a trendy tourist destination while in Thomasville.
